Day 5. Olympics in Rio de Janeiro

Friday, August 5th

Since July 31st Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have been in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, along with Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. They have been present at different events on occasion of the Olympics 2016.

Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary met Danish and Australian athletes

Only a few hours and the official opening ceremony will begin at Estadio MaracanĂ¡ in Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile the Crown Prince couple visited the Olympic Village. Here they meet both Danish and Australian athletes who expressed what an great honor it had been to meet the Crown Prince couple. The couple were also given a tour around the athletes apartments during the two and a half hour they spend in the Olympic Village. From the pictures I have seen, mostly taken by athletes who meet the couple (here, here, here, here), I think they really enjoyed each others company. I love how down to earth they both are; simply enjoying themselves in Rio. The Olympics is something they both love and I believe it brings back lots of wonderful memories. Of course from the time they met each other, but also from 2012 when Prince Christian and Princess Isabella accompanied them in London. They are an active family who enjoy all sorts of sports activities everything from football, handball, running, horse riding, golf, tennis and swimming. They also joined some of the athletes for a bike ride.

Like 80 or 90 % of all the athletes the couple met during their visit to the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro, the royal couple were wearing a t-shirt and shorts such as sneakers. The perfect outfit that's both sporty, casual, comfortable and chic at the same time. I think I've mentioned this once or twice before, but the clothes worn by the Danish athletes (and four royal family members) are designed by Bestseller in collaboration with athletes - sold at Jack & Jones and Vero Moda. The collection includes more than 100 styles for men and women. In the Olympic Village both Frederik and Mary wore shirts from this unique collection; Mary the same blouse as seen on Princess Marie one of the first days after her and Prince Joachim arrived to Brazil along with Prince Nikolai, Prince Felix, Prince Henrik and Princess Athena, here. Unfortunately is the t-shirt no longer available online but I found the same model just for men. Seems like the styles are incredible popular and sold out quickly.

Again she was wearing a pair of navy blue Nike shorts and matching new white sneakers from the same designer. Mary accessorized her casual look with Hartmann's earrings, a golden Orit Elhanati necklace such as bracelets from among others Dulong Fine Jewelry and Cartier. To keep her eyes protected from the warm Brazilian sun, she wore a pair of Prada sunglasses. I love how her makeup was all natural and a simple ponytail as hairstyle.

Crown Prince Frederik & Crown Princess Mary at the grand opening ceremony

Finally time is up and the Olympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro is now officially started. The four hours long opening ceremony took place at Estadio MaracanĂ¡, Rio de Janeiro at pm. 7:15 local time which means for those of you who followed the opening living in Denmark or close by, didn't get much sleep because the time difference is about five hours. I have to admit I didn't wait up till midnight to watch the four hours show, but what I've seen is extraordinary and truly impressive. Rhythmic music, thousands of happy people, colorful costumes and lots of glittering fireworks in the end. Spectacular.

All of this and much, much more was what entertained the Crown Prince couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, here. Both couple's were immortalized the moment by taken pictures and maybe a video or two. I'm sure they gave four very excited children at home, who can't wait to see these pictures.

Mary wasn't as colourful as the dancers and musicians entertaining during the opening ceremony, but I still adore her outfit. We saw a dress we haven't seen more than once several years ago. I always wondered why she hasn't worn it again because it was worn at a more or less private occasion back then. I see, with everything in her closet we have to wait maybe a year or so till we see it again, but now we have waited since 2012, when the couple arrived to Monaco to attend the wedding of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock, here. This lovely white crochet dress is from Ralph Lauren (Collection: Spring 2011) also seen on international model Claudia Schiffer, here.

As easy as it was to identify what dress she was wearing, as difficult has it been to find out about the navy blue blazer. Because it looks like she could be wearing her old Zara blazer. I'm confused because on the right side of her chest you see the logo, here, of the Danish Olympic wardrobe designed by Bestseller and a couple of Danish athletes attending the Olympics in Rio. Heaven suggested that the logo has been added to her Zara blazer. It's clear to me that Mary's blazer is not exactly the same as the athletes wore during the ceremony, here. Take a look and tell me what you think. After all, she styled her outfit with Dulong Fine Jewelry earrings, a bracelet from the same designer, one from Cartier and her stunning brown leather bag from Ralph Lauren.
